Meet the Canberra mum who’s now a best selling author

Natashia Telfer has written a book on how to level up your life—and it’s all about starting from within.
Swiping off the glossy layer to the boss babe world, Canberra’s own Natashia Telfer has written an essential guide to help you develop the right mindset to become the best version of yourself.
And while seeing glamourous and famous women telling you how to get your life together can (at times) feel like an exercise in frustration, Natashia’s new book Project Kind will lead you through the challenges she’s faced (including kidnapping, child abuse, end-stage 4B cancer, toxic relationships, eight tumultuous years of IVF, multiple miscarriages and heartache, post-natal depression and more)leaving you feeling like you can accomplish it all.
“The idea of my book is that it doesn’t matter who is facing the adversity, it is the skills you use to get past it that matters and it’s just a bit more real life,” Natashia says.
Because let’s be real, becoming successful isn’t some journey that goes in a straight line from A to B. It is filled with back roads and scenic stops that turn it into a line that resembles something more like a ball of wool than an arrow.
Natashia is a mother, multiple business owner, survivor, chaos coordinator and silver lining seeker. It’s a lot to manage for a woman with only two hands, and as such she’s also become a supreme ball juggler and perpetual ball dropper—topics she explores in detail in Project Kind.
“I truly believe that it’s impossible to have all balls up in the air at once. I’ve constantly got a couple down on the ground. You can have it all, but not all at once,” says Natashia.
“That’s normal and that doesn’t mean you’re failing one other aspect because you have to prioritise something else, it just means my other ball will be back in the air tomorrow.”

And according to Natashia, one of the balls that you need to make sure spends more time in the air, (rather than rolling into some forgotten corner) is self-kindness and remembering you aren’t alone—the saying ‘it takes a village’ is a classic for a reason.
“You need to look after yourself and set some boundaries. It’s about finding the right tribe and identifying when you need help from your support network, ”she says.
“I don’t think any task in life is a one-woman job and something that’s definitely worth knowing is where your boundaries are and when to wave that white flag.”
While raising that white flag, taking that step back and saying ‘I need help’ might have you breaking out in a cold sweat, in the 50 life lessons featured in Project Kind, Natashia explains that if you really want to be a force of kindness in the world, you need to start at home.
“I really feel like the world could do a lot more kindness, but that needs to start at home. Looking at yourself and recognising that you actually are struggling to improve or develop and knowing that you’re not the only person in that situation, that has immense benefits,” Natashia says.
And while the rapid rise of social media influencers who seem to have it all put together can often have you doom scrolling until 3 am in your bed, Natashia encourages you to look up from the screen and look at those around you.
“I’ve got a chapter called #influencers and instead of it being about the latest TikTok stars, it is about realising that some of the biggest influences in your life—whether you realise it or not—are the people around you,” Natashia says.
Officially launching Project Kind internationally on Thursday 8 September, Natashia has quickly become a Amazon Best Selling Author. With endorsements from the likes of powerhouse women including Yemi Penn and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, it’s just the start of Natashia’s newest journey.
“I wrote this book because I know that there are so many women out there with big dreams and ambitions who are playing small and being held back by fear and self-doubt. I was one of them! I want to send a strong and clear message to the world and to women everywhere that it doesn’t have to be this way, and this book will guide you through everything you need to develop the right mindset to try, to start, to jump!”
Donating all proceeds from the sale of the book to The Women’s Business School for female founders, she will be celebrating her first solo book right here in Canberra.
Project Kind subscription boxes with tips, tricks and gifts are also now available for purchase, designed to provide, support, inspire and up-skill women with the tools and resources to level up in life.
It’s the perfect opportunity to connect with a new growing community of boss babes—and show yourself a little kindness.
Keep up with all the balls Natashia has juggling here.
