Christmas is officially a month away and as trees start to be set up in living room corners, the big question of what you are going to pop underneath it is lurking in the back of all our minds. So why not head to the National Portrait Gallery for an evening of shopping from bespoke and handmade stalls? Organised by the team at the Curatoreum this curated market will have the perfect gift waiting for you—and with over 50 stalls, check out which ones not to miss here.

Friday 25 November, 5 pm – 8 pm, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 November 10 am – 5 pm | National Portrait Gallery, Parkes Place | undercurrentdesignmarket.com

Perfectly located across from the Undercurrent Market, after you’ve shopped to your heart’s content head across to see if you’re finally ready to tackle the Free Fall—maybe a couple of Fairy Bread martinis or Red Frog mojitos will help you conquer your nerves?

For those of us who haven’t been back since our Year Six excursions this is your chance to explore Questacon after dark. Head along to relive your childhood with your friends (and no one to limit your silly putty purchasing) as Questacon opens its doors for this adults-only special night. The night-time event is the perfect opportunity to head back to Canberra’s much-loved national institution for a fun-filled—and slightly more grown-up—experience with a very, very appropriate theme: nostalgia. Find out all the details here.

Friday 25 November, 6 pm – 9 pm | Questacon, King Edward Terrace, Parkes | Tickets questacon.edu.au

Looking for a rich and diverse music experience right here in Canberra? Sonic Travels at Ainslie Salon is the perfect destination. Friday night sees Senyawa, Lost Coast and Lynden Bassett take to the stage (who will be tapping into dark post-rock metal with tinges of experimental filtering). We chatted with the festival curator and some of the artists to dive into what to expect. Read it here.

Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 November, 6 pm| Ainslie Main Hall, Ainslie Arts Centre, 30 Elouera St, Braddon | Tickets here.

We mightn’t do turkey and the football like America, but we have certainly taken aboard the shopping and sales of Black Friday. Head down to the Canberra Centre to make the most of the shopping mayhem. Their Christmas Pop-Up Bar “Love from Christmas” will be open on Friday between 12 pm and 7 pm serving up Summer Gin and French Earl Grey Gin and Tonic from the Canberra Distillery. You will also have the chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree at Canberra Centre. See you there?

That Was Friday

Perhaps your perfect Friday night is heading along to the theatre! ‘Who are we without community?’ is  a question that sits at the heart of siblings Charley and Eliza Sanders’ latest multidisciplinary production, That Was Friday, which is coming to life at the Belconnen Arts Centre. This beautiful piece of storytelling is an ode to connection, the fragility of relationships, and the comfort we seek in the arms of isolation.

Until Saturday 26 November | Belconnen Arts Centre | Tickets here.
