Calling all goblins, elves and superheroes: the Geek Markets are back

Cosplay and comics and cards, oh my! There’ll be something for everyone at the Geek Markets and the best part is that they’re FREE.

“We’ve locked in over a hundred traders, we’ve got coffee vans and food traders. Preparations are in full swing, and we are just waiting to go now,” says owner and director, Dan Rathbone.

Want to make sure you know exactly where your favourites will be? The team has gone the extra mile to create an accurate floor plan that also fits the theme by mimicking a Dungeons and Dragons map (AKA DnD for those in the know).

“We’re really heavily leaning into the DnD aspect of it this time around and we’re going to be having live DnD sessions with one of our content partners, Star Stronghold, which is super exciting,” Dan says.

Popular in the 1980s, the fantasy tabletop role-playing game has recently seen an explosion of new interest thanks to the Netflix hit, Stranger Things, and the Geek Markets are your perfect foray deeper into the fandom world.

“Even if you’ve just got a passing interest or have only seen a Marvel movie once it doesn’t exclude you from all the other cool things at all. We like to embrace people from the hardcore geek-out fans down to those grown-ups or little people who are only just starting to explore this wonderful world,” Dan says.

In-between swooning over the very convincing Thor of Oz and filling your tummy with all things yummy, you can help support some local charities that will be selling some fan-tastic wares (you might need to unlock some Hulk strength to carry it all).

“One of the main things that we love to do is support the local Canberra community. We have Lifeline Canberra who will be having a mini book fair filled with comics and we have Super Tee coming as well,” Dan says.
