Looking for the perfect family-friendly activity this Sunday? Head to Fyshwick for
the Dairy Road Design Market, which will see 21 design and wine stalls, delicious food, play activities and Capital Brewing Co’s Birthday Party transform Dairy Road as part of the Design Canberra Festival.
Combining the vibrancy of one-day-only stalls with the brilliance of the Dairy Road precinct (have you marvelled at LESS yet?) this amalgamation of transient and fixed will create the dream occasion. Plus, a La Niña-foiling big stretch marquee will ensure a great time, no matter the weather!

Take your tastebuds on a trip around the world without leaving Fyshwick, with ramen and other Japanese classics from the brand-spanking-new Canteen, Egyptian-inspired artisan baked goods from Origin Bake and gourmet Indian street food from Tikka Stand. You can even watch the masters from the Italian Place at work as they chop, cook and create delicious gnocchi!
Whether you’re into Brodburger’s iconic burgers, Barebones BBQ’s pit-smoked BBQ, or prefer to fill your body with nourishing fare from As Nature Intended and Nourish & Breathe, the Dairy Road Design Market is dishing up deliciousness for every taste.
After something sweet? You’re in luck! The super cute and quirky Suny Cereal Bar can provide the perfect bowl of sugary deliciousness, while chocoholics should not go past Jasper and Myrtle Chocolates.

The new market also offers the chance to discover a new obsession, with boutique wineries Sassafras, Mallaluka and Quarry Hill serving up something for every palate—from the wine novice to the connoisseur. Grab a glass of your favourite local drop, with the much-loved Contentious Character, Lerida Estate and Mount Majura Vineyard also bringing their cellar doors to Fyshwick for the day.
Also, in a perfect collision of dates, Capital Brewing Co will be celebrating their fifth birthday at the same time as the markets. They have oceans of special release beer and urban art platform Soul Defender will be parked outside to pump out all the feel-good vibes as Canberra musicians such as Sam Sly, Eden Plenty, Hope Hopkins, Gold Coast four-piece Peach Fur and Kiwi indie group Lazy Ghost take the stage.
Lovers of gin and vodka are also looked after, with Ambrosia Distillery and Big River Distilling both opening their doors. Best pace yourself. Round out the afternoon with a spot of coffee or tea from Barrio or Waypoint Tea Co.
PLAY + EXPLORE

Pop into Terrestrial Urbanism—an exhibition exploring the future vision for Dairy Road, an interconnected neighbourhood where many often-separated parts work together as one ecosystem. Light industry, working, living, recreation, retail and entertainment will take place in a restored landscape.
While you’re in the exhibition frame of mind, pop into Grainger Gallery, which is currently showcasing Great Goddess by Sally Blake and Net Works by Jennifer Kemarre Martiniello. It’s a must-visit destination for those on the hunt for a new piece of art, or those simply wanting to appreciate some of Australia’s artistic talent.
Just as beautiful is The Modern Object, a delightful store for discerning lovers of mid-century design stocking a colourful array of furniture, glassware, objects d’art, tableware, sculpture and more. Don’t miss the chance to explore.
Love theatre? Catch performances at Dairy Road’s new Mill Theatre, previewing their upcoming show The Torrents by Oriel Gray. Or perhaps you’d like to feel the salt air in your hair (or in our case, Lake Burley Griffin water)? Join the team from Mountain Boats to build your own boat. Maybe take a stroll at your own pace through the Jerrabombera Wetlands—why not leave the car at Kingston Foreshore and enjoy the easy scenic walk!
Have a future architect in the family, or just a little one who loves to build things to knock them back down? Play Dairy Road will enthral the young (and young at heart). Green Hat Workshops are bringing a construction wonderland to the markets, with thousands of building blocks, arches and loose parts for you to let loose on and create something unique. Meet at the garden next to Capital Brewing—bookings not required.
Do you want to take some real climate action? Learn how you can offset your business or life with the team from NetZero and their clever calculations who will help you work out how to get carbon off setting and sustainability systems in place.
Special events aside, the Dairy Road community has plenty to offer visitors to the markets—be sure to check out BlocHaus (bouldering, anyone?), get your om on at Flow Yoga and Yoga Mandir, or give snow-free skiing a go at Vertikal Indoor Snow Sports!
